C61 SLばんえつ物語号 試運転

先週に続き、4月29日、30日の両日に、磐越西線の新津～会津若松間で運行された、C61の20号機が牽引する「SLばんえつ物語号」の試運転に出かけてきました。本番も5月中の土日祝日はC61の牽引で運行されるようです。
今年の4月下旬は気温が高く、煙の量はイマイチでしたが、それでも上り勾配区間では黒煙をもうもうと吐きながら疾走する大迫力の姿を見せてくれました。

I visited Ban' Etsu West Line to see the trial run of "SL Ban' Etsu Monogatari Train" operated between Niitsu and Aizu-Wakamatsu with C61 20 on 29 -30 April. The commercial service train is being operated with C61 20 all weekend in May.
In this year, the temperature was high and volume of smoke was not so much. However, the locomotive runs impressively with much black smoke on uphill slope.
磐越西線の西側の非電化区間を訪問したのは7年ぶりでしたが、阿賀野川に沿って走るこの区間は山あり谷あり橋梁ありで、絵になる場所が多くて素晴らしいですね。都内からは新幹線で1万円程度で行けるというのもいい感じです。これ以上遠いと、あまり気軽に出かけられる感じでもなくなってしまいますからね。JR東日本もSLの定期運行路線として絶妙な場所を選んだものです。

それにしても、会津若松からの折り返しの日出谷駅近傍の当麻橋梁の人手は相変わらず物凄いですね。あまり大勢が集まりすぎると、色々地元の人にも迷惑でしょうから、人が多すぎるようでしたら、他の場所を選んだ方が良さそうです。

It was 7 years passed after my last visitation to the unelectrified west part of Ban' Etsu West Line but I re-realized that this line has many beautiful photogenic locations such as mountainous area, valleys and river bridges. The distance from Tokyo is not too far to visit. It takes around 10,000 yen by Shinkansen from Tokyo to Niigata. If it is farther, most of people in Tokyo cannot visit easily. JR East chose the finest line to operate steam train regularly.
By the way, the turnout at Touma bridge around Hideya station in the evening was huge. If too many people gather one place, local people do not feel comfortable. When we see too many people gathering around there, we should change the place to take pictures.
